अथ रश्मीन् प्रवक्ष्यामि ग्रहाणां द्विजसत्तम ।
दिन् नवेष्विषुसप्ताष्टशराः स्वोच्चे करो रवेः ॥१॥

Now, O best among the twice-born (dvijasattama), I will explain the rays of the planets. When they are in their exaltation (svocca), the rays are: ten for the Sun, nine for the Moon, five for Mars, seven for Mercury, eight for Jupiter, and five for Venus.
