महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-63, verse-8

एवमुक्त्वा स नागेन्द्रो बभूवाङ्गुष्ठमात्रकः ।
तं गृहीत्वा नलः प्रायादुद्देशं दाववर्जितम् ॥८॥
8. evamuktvā sa nāgendro babhūvāṅguṣṭhamātrakaḥ ,
taṁ gṛhītvā nalaḥ prāyāduddeśaṁ dāvavarjitam.
8. evam uktvā sa nāgendraḥ babhūva aṅguṣṭhamātrakaḥ
tam gṛhītvā nalaḥ prāyāt uddeśam dāvavarjitam
8. Having spoken thus, that king of serpents (nāgendra) transformed into the size of a thumb. Nala then took him and departed for a place free from forest fires.
