महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-49, verse-21

अस्वामिकस्य स्वामित्वं यस्मिन्संप्रतिलक्षयेत् ।
सवर्णस्तं च पोषेत सवर्णस्तस्य जायते ॥२१॥
21. asvāmikasya svāmitvaṁ yasminsaṁpratilakṣayet ,
savarṇastaṁ ca poṣeta savarṇastasya jāyate.
21. asvāmikasya svāmitvam yasmin sampratilakṣayet
savarṇaḥ tam ca poṣeta savarṇaḥ tasya jāyate
21. That [child] in whom one should clearly observe the assumption of proprietorship over an ownerless person, and whom a person of the same social class (savarṇa) should raise—that [child] becomes [a member] of that same social class (savarṇa).
