महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-90, verse-24

इतो दत्तेन जीवन्ति देवाः पितृगणास्तथा ।
मनुष्योरगरक्षांसि वयांसि पशवस्तथा ॥२४॥
24. ito dattena jīvanti devāḥ pitṛgaṇāstathā ,
manuṣyoragarakṣāṁsi vayāṁsi paśavastathā.

24. From the offerings given here (on earth), the gods and the hosts of ancestors subsist. In the same way, humans, serpents, rākṣasas (demons), birds, and animals also derive their sustenance.
