Among the three particular kinds of silence [speech, sense, and inert mental], the one confined is the 'log-like ascetic' (kāṣṭhatāpasa). That state of 'deep-sleep silence' (suṣuptamaunāvasthā) is the transcendental (turyā) state itself, which is verily the liberated intellect (muktadhī).
