वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-7, chapter-87, verse-11

ततो हलहला शब्दः सर्वेषामेवमाबभौ ।
दुःखजेन विशालेन शोकेनाकुलितात्मनाम् ॥११॥
11. tato halahalā śabdaḥ sarveṣāmevamābabhau ,
duḥkhajena viśālena śokenākulitātmanām.

11. Then, a tumultuous `halahala` sound clearly arose from everyone whose souls (ātman) were agitated by a vast sorrow born of their suffering.
