वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-6, chapter-95, verse-24

नानिमित्तो ऽभवद्बाणो नातिभेत्ता न निष्फलः ।
तथा विसृजतोर्बाणान् रामरावणयोर्मृधे ॥२४॥
24. nānimitto'bhavadbāṇo nātibhettā na niṣphalaḥ ,
tathā visṛjatorbāṇān rāmarāvaṇayormṛdhe.
24. na animittaḥ abhavat bāṇaḥ na atibhettā na
niṣphalaḥ tathā visṛjatoḥ bāṇān rāmarāvaṇayoḥ mṛdhe
24. mṛdhe bāṇān visṛjatoḥ rāmarāvaṇayoḥ tathā (satsu),
bāṇaḥ na animittaḥ abhavat,
na atibhettā,
na niṣphalaḥ (abhavat).
24. As Rama and Ravana thus discharged arrows in battle, no arrow was without a purpose, none pierced unnecessarily, nor was any fruitless.
