वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-1, chapter-48, verse-9

तदा प्रभृति काकुत्स्थ पितृदेवाः समागताः ।
अफलान्भुञ्जते मेषान्फलैस्तेषामयोजयन् ॥९॥
9. tadā prabhṛti kākutstha pitṛdevāḥ samāgatāḥ ,
aphalānbhuñjate meṣānphalaisteṣāmayojayan.

9. From that time onwards, O scion of Kakutstha, the ancestral deities (pitṛdevas) gathered. They partake of rams that are devoid of generative power (castrated), (even though) they (the ancestral deities) themselves had associated these rams with 'fruits' (i.e., the generative power or testicles, symbolically or ritually).
