मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-55, verse-21

भद्राश्चभारताद्यानि पत्राण्यस्य चतुर्दिशम् ।
भारतं नाम यद्वर्षं दक्षिणेन मयोदितम् ॥२१॥
21. bhadrāścabhāratādyāni patrāṇyasya caturdiśam .
bhārataṃ nāma yadvarṣaṃ dakṣiṇena mayoditam.
21. bhadrāśvabhāratādyāni patrāṇi asya caturdiśam
bhāratam nāma yat varṣam dakṣiṇena mayā uditam
21. Bhadrāśva, Bhārata, and other regions are its (the earth's) divisions in the four directions. That region (varṣa) named Bhārata, which I mentioned, is situated to the south.
