महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-41, verse-12

इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थेभ्यः प्रियेभ्यः संनिवर्त्य सः ।
क्षुत्पिपासातपसहः कृशो धमनिसंततः ।
देवमाराधयच्छर्वं गृणन्ब्रह्म सनातनम् ॥१२॥
12. indriyāṇīndriyārthebhyaḥ priyebhyaḥ saṁnivartya saḥ ,
kṣutpipāsātapasahaḥ kṛśo dhamanisaṁtataḥ ,
devamārādhayaccharvaṁ gṛṇanbrahma sanātanam.

12. Having completely withdrawn his senses from their pleasing objects, he, enduring hunger, thirst, and heat, became emaciated, with his veins protruding. He worshipped the deity Śarva (Śiva), chanting the eternal Brahman.
