महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-137, verse-8

वार्यमाणोऽपि पापेभ्यः पापात्मा पापमिच्छति ।
चोद्यमानोऽपि पापेन शुभात्मा शुभमिच्छति ॥८॥
8. vāryamāṇo'pi pāpebhyaḥ pāpātmā pāpamicchati ,
codyamāno'pi pāpena śubhātmā śubhamicchati.

codyamāṇaḥ api pāpena śubhātmā śubham icchati
8. pāpātmā pāpebhyaḥ vāryamāṇaḥ api pāpam icchati.

8. Even when being restrained from sinful acts, a wicked soul (pāpātmā) desires only evil. Similarly, even when being urged towards evil, a virtuous soul (śubhātmā) desires only good.
