महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-117, verse-8

अपराण्यपि चत्वारि शतानि द्विजसत्तम ।
नीयमानानि संतारे हृतान्यासन्वितस्तया ।
एवं न शक्यमप्राप्यं प्राप्तुं गालव कर्हिचित् ॥८॥
8. aparāṇyapi catvāri śatāni dvijasattama ,
nīyamānāni saṁtāre hṛtānyāsanvitastayā ,
evaṁ na śakyamaprāpyaṁ prāptuṁ gālava karhicit.
8. aparāṇi api catvāri śatāni
dvijasattama nīyamānāni saṃtāre hṛtāni
āsan vitastayā evam na śakyam
aprāpyam prāptum gālava karhicit
8. O best of the twice-born (dvijāti), another four hundred (horses), while being transported across the river, were carried away by Vitastā. In this way, O Gālava, it is never possible to obtain what is unobtainable.
