महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-271, verse-27

शतशो नैरृतान्वन्या जघ्नुर्वन्यांश्च नैरृताः ।
नैरृतास्तत्र वध्यन्ते प्रायशो न तु वानराः ॥२७॥
27. śataśo nairṛtānvanyā jaghnurvanyāṁśca nairṛtāḥ ,
nairṛtāstatra vadhyante prāyaśo na tu vānarāḥ.

27. Hundreds of forest-dwellers killed Rākṣasas, and Rākṣasas, in turn, killed forest-dwellers. In that battle, mostly the Rākṣasas were being killed, but not the monkeys (vānarās).
