महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-140, verse-3

कर्मेज्या मानवानां च दानवैर्हैहयर्षभ ।
भ्रष्टैश्वर्यास्ततो देवाश्चेरुः पृथ्वीमिति श्रुतिः ॥३॥
3. karmejyā mānavānāṁ ca dānavairhaihayarṣabha ,
bhraṣṭaiśvaryāstato devāśceruḥ pṛthvīmiti śrutiḥ.
3. karmejyā mānavānām ca dānavaiḥ haihayarṣabha
bhraṣṭaiśvaryāḥ tataḥ devāḥ ceruḥ pṛthvīm iti śrutiḥ
3. O best of Haihayas, the Dānavas also seized the Vedic rituals (karma-ijyā) of humans. Therefore, the gods, having lost their sovereignty, wandered the earth; such is the sacred tradition (śruti).
