सर्वेषामेव भूतानां पुरुषः श्रेष्ठ उच्यते ।

Among all living beings, the individual self (puruṣa) is declared to be supreme. Among persons (puruṣa), they say the twice-born are superior. And among the twice-born, those who know or recite sacred formulas (mantra) are considered superior.
