And there were those constantly engaged in chanting (japa) and always performing austerities (tapas), as well as those who practiced the five-fire penance. All these ascetics, endowed with divine splendor (śrī), and deeply absorbed in steadfast contemplative discipline (yoga), then approached Rāma in the hermitage (āśrama) of Śarabhaṅga.
