वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-3, chapter-5, verse-14

सो ऽयं ब्राह्मणभूयिष्ठो वानप्रस्थगणो महान् ।
त्वन्नाथो ऽनाथवद् राम राक्षसैर्वध्यते भृशम् ॥१४॥
14. so'yaṃ brāhmaṇabhūyiṣṭho vānaprasthagaṇo mahān ,
tvannātho'nāthavad rāma rākṣasairvadhyate bhṛśam.
14. saḥ ayam brāhmaṇa-bhūyiṣṭhaḥ vānaprastha-gaṇaḥ mahān
tvat-nāthaḥ anātha-vat rāma rākṣasaiḥ vadhyate bhṛśam
14. rāma,

14. O Rāma, this great multitude of hermits (vānaprastha), predominantly Brahmins, who have you as their protector, are being severely killed by demons (rākṣasa) as if they were helpless.
