धराधरां जगद्योनेः पदं नारायणस्य च ।
ततः प्रवृत्ता या देवी गङ्गा त्रिपथगामिनी ॥१॥

Mārkaṇḍeya said: (I shall describe) the mountain (dharādhara) — which is the source of the world (jagadyoni) and the abode (pada) of Nārāyaṇa. From there, that divine Gaṅgā, who flows in three paths (tripathagāminī), originated.
