महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-169, verse-16

पाञ्चाल्यं तु महाबाहो नाहं हन्यां शिखण्डिनम् ।
उद्यतेषुमभिप्रेक्ष्य प्रतियुध्यन्तमाहवे ॥१६॥
16. pāñcālyaṁ tu mahābāho nāhaṁ hanyāṁ śikhaṇḍinam ,
udyateṣumabhiprekṣya pratiyudhyantamāhave.
16. pāñcālyam tu mahābāho na aham hanyām śikhaṇḍinam
udyateṣum abhiprekṣya pratiyudhyantam āhave
16. mahābāho tu aham pāñcālyam śikhaṇḍinam udyateṣum abhiprekṣya āhave pratiyudhyantam api na hanyām.
16. But, O mighty-armed one (mahābāho), I would not strike Śikhaṇḍin, the Pāñcāla, even after seeing him with uplifted arrows and fighting back in battle (āhava).
