महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-113, verse-10

हताशो ह्यकृतार्थः सन्हतः संभावितो नरः ।
हिनस्ति तस्य पुत्रांश्च पौत्रांश्चाकुर्वतोऽर्थिनाम् ॥१०॥
10. hatāśo hyakṛtārthaḥ sanhataḥ saṁbhāvito naraḥ ,
hinasti tasya putrāṁśca pautrāṁścākurvato'rthinām.
10. hatāśaḥ hi akṛtārthaḥ san hataḥ saṃbhāvitaḥ naraḥ
hinasti tasya putrān ca pautrān ca akurvataḥ arthinām
10. Indeed, a person whose hopes are destroyed and who is unsuccessful, even if (formerly) esteemed, is ruined. Such a person harms the sons and grandsons of those who do not assist petitioners.
