महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-2, chapter-14, verse-5

शममेव परं मन्ये न तु मोक्षाद्भवेच्छमः ।
आरम्भे पारमेष्ठ्यं तु न प्राप्यमिति मे मतिः ॥५॥
5. śamameva paraṁ manye na tu mokṣādbhavecchamaḥ ,
ārambhe pārameṣṭhyaṁ tu na prāpyamiti me matiḥ.
5. śamam eva param manye na tu mokṣāt bhavet śamaḥ
| ārambhe pārameṣṭhyam tu na prāpyam iti me matiḥ
5. I consider tranquility (śama) to be supreme, but tranquility (śama) does not arise from liberation (mokṣa). However, my opinion is that the highest state (pārameṣṭhya) is not attainable at the very beginning.
