योगवासिष्ठः yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-7, chapter-57, verse-12

बीजात्कारणतः कार्यमङ्कुरः किल जायते ।
न बीजमपि यत्रास्ति तत्र स्यादङ्कुरः कुतः ॥ १२ ॥

bījātkāraṇataḥ kāryamaṅkuraḥ kila jāyate ,
na bījamapi yatrāsti tatra syādaṅkuraḥ kutaḥ 12

12. Indeed, from a seed, which is the cause, a sprout, the effect (kārya), arises. But where there is not even a seed, from where could a sprout possibly come?
