वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-1, chapter-2, verse-27

पापात्मना कृतं कष्टं वैरग्रहणबुद्धिना ।
यस्तादृशं चारुरवं क्रौञ्चं हन्यादकारणात् ॥२७॥
27. pāpātmanā kṛtaṃ kaṣṭaṃ vairagrahaṇabuddhinā ,
yastādṛśaṃ cāruravaṃ krauñcaṃ hanyādakāraṇāt.

27. What suffering has been caused by that sinful soul (ātman), whose intention was to take revenge, who would kill such a beautifully sounding krauñca bird without any reason!
