महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-6, chapter-38, verse-22

एतैर्विमुक्तः कौन्तेय तमोद्वारैस्त्रिभिर्नरः ।
आचरत्यात्मनः श्रेयस्ततो याति परां गतिम् ॥२२॥

22. O son of Kuntī (Arjuna), a person liberated from these three doors of darkness performs actions conducive to the welfare of their self (ātman), and thereby attains the supreme state.
