महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-243, verse-23

संगम्य सूतपुत्रेण कर्णेनाहवशोभिना ।
दुर्योधनः प्रिये नित्यं वर्तमानो महीपतिः ।
पूजयामास विप्रेन्द्रान्क्रतुभिर्भूरिदक्षिणैः ॥२३॥
23. saṁgamya sūtaputreṇa karṇenāhavaśobhinā ,
duryodhanaḥ priye nityaṁ vartamāno mahīpatiḥ ,
pūjayāmāsa viprendrānkratubhirbhūridakṣiṇaiḥ.

23. King Duryodhana, the lord of the earth, who always pursued his own desires, met with Karṇa, the son of Sūta, who shone gloriously in battle. He honored the chief Brahmins with rituals (kratu) that included abundant sacrificial fees.
