महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-128, verse-15

माकन्दीमथ गङ्गायास्तीरे जनपदायुताम् ।
सोऽध्यावसद्दीनमनाः काम्पिल्यं च पुरोत्तमम् ।
दक्षिणांश्चैव पाञ्चालान्यावच्चर्मण्वती नदी ॥१५॥
15. mākandīmatha gaṅgāyāstīre janapadāyutām ,
so'dhyāvasaddīnamanāḥ kāmpilyaṁ ca purottamam ,
dakṣiṇāṁścaiva pāñcālānyāvaccarmaṇvatī nadī.

| saḥ adhyāvasat dīnamanāḥ
kāmpilyam ca puru-uttamam | dakṣiṇān
ca eva pāñcālān yāvat carmaṇvatī nadī
15. Then, with a sorrowful mind (dīnamanāḥ), he (Drupada) settled in Mākaṇḍī, which was situated on the bank of the Gaṅgā and filled with many districts, as well as in Kāmpilya, the foremost of cities, and in the southern Pañcāla region, extending as far as the Carmaṇvatī river.
