वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-6, chapter-14, verse-2

न च दर्शयते मन्दस्तदा रामस्य सागरः ।
प्रयतेनापि रामेण यथार्हमभिपूजितः ॥२॥
2. na ca darśayate mandastadā rāmasya sāgaraḥ ,
prayatenāpi rāmeṇa yathārhamabhipūjitaḥ.
2. na ca darśayate mandaḥ tadā rāmasya sāgaraḥ
prayatena api rāmeṇa yathārham abhipūjitaḥ
2. tadā rāmasya mandaḥ sāgaraḥ ca na darśayate
rāmeṇa prayatena api yathārham abhipūjitaḥ
2. Yet, the sluggish ocean (sāgara) did not reveal himself to Rāma, even though [he had been] worshipped appropriately by the observant Rāma.
