वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-2, chapter-111, verse-7

अल्पपर्णा हि तरवो घनीभूताः समन्ततः ।
विप्रकृष्टे ऽपि ये देशे न प्रकाशन्ति वै दिशः ॥७॥
7. alpaparṇā hi taravo ghanībhūtāḥ samantataḥ ,
viprakṛṣṭe'pi ye deśe na prakāśanti vai diśaḥ.

viprakṛṣṭe api ye deśe na prakāśanti vai diśaḥ
7. hi taravaḥ alpa-parṇāḥ samantataḥ ghanībhūtāḥ ye

7. Indeed, trees (taravaḥ) with few leaves (alpaparṇāḥ) become dense (ghanībhūtāḥ) all around (samantataḥ). These (trees), even in a distant region (viprakṛṣṭe api deśe), certainly (vai) do not allow the directions (diśaḥ) to be clearly seen (na prakāśanti).
