मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-30, verse-8

मृताहनि च कर्तव्यमेकोद्दिष्टं शृणुष्व तत् ।
दैवहीनं तथा कार्यं तथैवैकपवित्रकम् ॥८॥
8. mṛtāhani ca kartavyamekoddiṣṭaṃ śṛṇuṣva tat .
daivahīnaṃ tathā kāryaṃ tathaivaikapavitrakam.
8. mṛtāhani ca kartavyam ekoddiṣṭam śṛṇuṣva tat
daivahīnam tathā kāryam tathā eva ekapavitrakam
8. And listen to this: the rite for a single deceased person (ekoddiṣṭa) should be performed on the anniversary of death. That rite should be performed without invoking the gods (daivahīna) and, similarly, with a single purifying object (ekapavitra).
