महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-117, verse-13

तां कश्यपस्यानुमते ब्राह्मणाः खण्डशस्तदा ।
व्यभजंस्तेन ते राजन्प्रख्याताः खाण्डवायनाः ॥१३॥
13. tāṁ kaśyapasyānumate brāhmaṇāḥ khaṇḍaśastadā ,
vyabhajaṁstena te rājanprakhyātāḥ khāṇḍavāyanāḥ.
13. tām kaśyapasya anumate brāhmaṇāḥ khaṇḍaśaḥ tadā
vyabhajan tena te rājan prakhyātāḥ khāṇḍavāyanāḥ
13. Then, O king, with Kashyapa's consent, those brahmins divided that (altar) into pieces. Due to this, they became known as the famous Khaṇḍavāyanas.
