महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-40, verse-17

पूजयामास तांश्चापि विधिवद्भूरिदक्षिणः ।
ततो निष्कसहस्रेण ब्राह्मणान्स्वस्ति वाचयत् ।
वेदाध्ययनसंपन्नाञ्शीलवृत्तसमन्वितान् ॥१७॥
17. pūjayāmāsa tāṁścāpi vidhivadbhūridakṣiṇaḥ ,
tato niṣkasahasreṇa brāhmaṇānsvasti vācayat ,
vedādhyayanasaṁpannāñśīlavṛttasamanvitān.

17. And he, who gave ample offerings (dakṣiṇā), honored them according to the proper rites. Then, with a thousand gold coins (niṣkas), he caused the Brahmins—who were accomplished in Vedic study and endowed with good conduct and character—to pronounce blessings.
