The self (ātman) guides by its own nature, much like an eye. Yet, at the end of night, the self (ātman) is enveloped by darkness. But knowledge (jñāna), endowed with the quality of discriminative wisdom (vijñāna), sees unwholesome action as something that must be avoided.
