महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-19, verse-13

उत्तरेण तु पन्थानमार्या विषयनिग्रहात् ।
अबुद्धिजं तमस्त्यक्त्वा लोकांस्त्यागवतां गताः ॥१३॥
13. uttareṇa tu panthānamāryā viṣayanigrahāt ,
abuddhijaṁ tamastyaktvā lokāṁstyāgavatāṁ gatāḥ.

13. But the noble ones (ārya), through the restraint of sense objects, follow the northern path. Abandoning the darkness born of ignorance, they reach the realms of those who practice renunciation.
