वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-5, chapter-50, verse-7

वैरूप्यामङ्गेषु कशाभिघातो मौण्ड्यं तथा लक्ष्मणसंनिपातः ।
एतान् हि दूते प्रवदन्ति दण्डान् वधस्तु दूतस्य न नः श्रुतो ऽपि ॥७॥
7. vairūpyāmaṅgeṣu kaśābhighāto mauṇḍyaṃ tathā lakṣmaṇasaṃnipātaḥ ,
etān hi dūte pravadanti daṇḍān vadhastu dūtasya na naḥ śruto'pi.

7. Disfigurement of the limbs, flogging, shaving the head, and branding—these, indeed, are the punishments they prescribe for a messenger. But the killing of a messenger is something we have not even heard of.
