महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-101, verse-8

ते वृत्रं निहतं दृष्ट्वा सहस्राक्षेण धीमता ।
जीवितं परिरक्षन्तः प्रविष्टा वरुणालयम् ॥८॥
8. te vṛtraṁ nihataṁ dṛṣṭvā sahasrākṣeṇa dhīmatā ,
jīvitaṁ parirakṣantaḥ praviṣṭā varuṇālayam.

8. Upon seeing Vṛtra slain by the wise, thousand-eyed Indra, they (the Kāleyas) protected their lives by entering the abode of Varuṇa (the ocean).
