देवा ऊचुः ।

The gods said: From this offering (dāna), all four kinds of creatures (prajāḥ) sustain themselves. These (creatures), being duly honored (by humans), in turn honor (bhāvayanti) the celestial beings (divaukasaḥ) with offerings (havya) for deities and oblations (kavya) for ancestors.
