महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-66, verse-17

धन्यं यशस्यमायुष्यं जलदानं विशां पते ।
शत्रूंश्चाप्यधि कौन्तेय सदा तिष्ठति तोयदः ॥१७॥
17. dhanyaṁ yaśasyamāyuṣyaṁ jaladānaṁ viśāṁ pate ,
śatrūṁścāpyadhi kaunteya sadā tiṣṭhati toyadaḥ.
17. dhanyam yaśasyam āyuṣyam jala-dānam viśām pate |
śatrūn ca api adhi kaunteya sadā tiṣṭhati toyadaḥ
17. viśām pate jala-dānam dhanyam yaśasyam āyuṣyam ca
kaunteya toyadaḥ sadā śatrūn api adhi tiṣṭhati
17. O lord of the people, the giving (dāna) of water is meritorious, brings fame, and prolongs life. And O son of Kuntī, a water-giver (toyada) always remains victorious over enemies.
