प्राक्तनं चैहिकं चेति द्विविधं विद्धि पौरुषम् ।
प्राक्तनोऽद्यतनेनाशु पुरुषार्थेन जीयते ॥ १७ ॥

17. Understand human effort (paurusha) to be of two kinds: that from the past and that of the present. The results of past effort (paurusha) are quickly overcome by present human endeavor (puruṣārtha).
