महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-25, verse-9

ते चेत्कुरूननुशास्य स्थ पार्था निनीय सर्वान्द्विषतो निगृह्य ।
समं वस्तज्जीवितं मृत्युना स्याद्यज्जीवध्वं ज्ञातिवधे न साधु ॥९॥
9. te cetkurūnanuśāsya stha pārthā; ninīya sarvāndviṣato nigṛhya ,
samaṁ vastajjīvitaṁ mṛtyunā syā;dyajjīvadhvaṁ jñātivadhe na sādhu.
9. te cet kurūn anuśāsya stha pārthāḥ
ninīya sarvān dviṣataḥ nigṛhya
samam vaḥ tat jīvitam mṛtyunā syāt
yat jīvadhvam jñātivadhe na sādhu
9. O Pārthas, if you remain after governing the Kurus, having brought low and subdued all your enemies, that life of yours would be equal to death, for living by kinsmen-slaughter is not good.
