महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-129, verse-6

तथा भीष्मः शांतनवः सत्यसंधो महाव्रतः ।
प्रत्याख्याय पुरा राज्यं नाद्य जातु ग्रहीष्यति ॥६॥
6. tathā bhīṣmaḥ śāṁtanavaḥ satyasaṁdho mahāvrataḥ ,
pratyākhyāya purā rājyaṁ nādya jātu grahīṣyati.
6. tathā bhīṣmaḥ śāntanavaḥ satyasaṃdhaḥ mahāvrataḥ
pratyākhyāya purā rājyam na adya jātu grahīṣyati
6. Similarly, Bhīṣma, the son of Śantanu, who is true to his pledge (satyasaṃdha) and upholds great vows (mahāvrata), will certainly not accept the kingdom now, as he had refused it before.
