महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-129, verse-12

हतो वा दिवमारोहेद्विजयी क्षितिमावसेत् ।
युद्धे तु संत्यजन्प्राणाञ्शक्रस्यैति सलोकताम् ॥१२॥

12. If slain, one ascends to heaven; if victorious, one dwells upon the earth. Moreover, by sacrificing one's lives (prāṇa) in battle, one attains the same realm as Indra (Śakra).
