15. The great-souled (mahāmanāḥ) Hanuman saw Lanka—where the Rākṣasas were distraught, terrified, and dejected, and which was marked by brightly blazing flames of fire—as if it were the earth (avani) afflicted by the wrath of the Self-existent (Svayambhu, i.e., Brahmā).
