महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-14, chapter-63, verse-16

श्रुत्वा तु तेषां द्विजसत्तमानां कृतोपवासा रजनीं नरेन्द्राः ।
ऊषुः प्रतीताः कुशसंस्तरेषु यथाध्वरेषु ज्वलिता हव्यवाहाः ॥१६॥
16. śrutvā tu teṣāṁ dvijasattamānāṁ; kṛtopavāsā rajanīṁ narendrāḥ ,
ūṣuḥ pratītāḥ kuśasaṁstareṣu; yathādhvareṣu jvalitā havyavāhāḥ.

16. Having heard those words from the best among the twice-born (brahmins), the kings, having observed a fast for the night, remained contentedly on beds of kuśa grass, just like the sacred fires kindled during (Vedic rituals).
