दिष्टस्य ग्रन्थिरनिवर्तनीयः स्वकर्मणा विहितं नेह किंचित् ।
कृतं निमित्तं हि वरैकहेतोस्तदेवेदमुपपन्नं बहूनाम् ॥२॥

The knot of destiny (diṣṭa) is irreversible; nothing here is truly ordained solely by one's individual action (karma). Indeed, a specific cause (nimitta) was created for the sake of a single boon (vara) [referring to Draupadi's past wish]. As a result, that very thing [her marrying multiple husbands] has now fittingly occurred for many.
