हृदयाकाशमात्रस्य शरीरक्षयसंक्षये ।
व्यर्थं भूतानि शोचन्ति नष्ट आत्मेति शङ्कया ॥ १६ ॥

vyarthaṃ bhūtāni śocanti naṣṭa ātmeti śaṅkayā 16

bhūtāni śocanti naṣṭaḥ ātmā iti śaṅkayā

16. hṛdayākāśamātrasya śarīrakṣayasaṃkṣaye [sati],
bhūtāni "ātmā naṣṭaḥ" iti śaṅkayā vyartham śocanti

16. When the body perishes and is destroyed, people lament in vain, fearing, "the self (ātman) that resides in the mere space of the heart is lost."
