महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-146, verse-6

तत्रेतिहासं वक्ष्यामि धर्मस्यास्योपबृंहणम् ।
दह्यमानः पापकृत्या जगाम जनमेजयः ॥६॥
6. tatretihāsaṁ vakṣyāmi dharmasyāsyopabṛṁhaṇam ,
dahyamānaḥ pāpakṛtyā jagāma janamejayaḥ.

6. In this regard, I will narrate a history (itihāsa) that serves as an amplification of this natural law (dharma). King Janamejaya, burning with the consequences of his sinful deeds (pāpakṛtyā), went (to seek absolution).
