Then, at that moment, the mind of the great-souled (mahātman) Hanumān—who was disciplined in spirit (kṛtātman), whose inner self was deeply contemplated in various ways, who followed a virtuous path, and who, possessing keen eyesight, was searching everywhere—became exceedingly distressed because he did not see Janaka's daughter (Sītā).
