महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-184, verse-1

भरद्वाज उवाच ।
दानस्य किं फलं प्राहुर्धर्मस्य चरितस्य च ।
तपसश्च सुतप्तस्य स्वाध्यायस्य हुतस्य च ॥१॥
1. bharadvāja uvāca ,
dānasya kiṁ phalaṁ prāhurdharmasya caritasya ca ,
tapasaśca sutaptasya svādhyāyasya hutasya ca.

caritasya ca tapasaḥ ca sutaptasya svādhyāyasya hutasya ca

1. Bharadvāja said: "What result do they declare for charity (dāna), and for the natural law (dharma) that has been practiced, and for severe asceticism (tapas) performed well, and for Vedic study (svādhyāya) and oblations offered?"
