योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-1, chapter-14, verse-11

तरवोऽपि हि जीवन्ति जीवन्ति मृगपक्षिणः ।
स जीवति मनो यस्य मननेन न जीवति ॥ ११ ॥
taravo'pi hi jīvanti jīvanti mṛgapakṣiṇaḥ ,
sa jīvati mano yasya mananena na jīvati 11
11. taravaḥ api hi jīvanti jīvanti mṛgapakṣiṇaḥ
saḥ jīvati manaḥ yasya mananena na jīvati
11. Indeed, even trees live, and animals and birds live. But he truly lives whose mind does not merely subsist through its own mental activity (manana).
