यथा मदवशादात्मा सोऽन्यवत्प्रतिभासते ।
तथैव चित्त्वाच्चिद्धातुः स एवाऽस इव स्थितः ॥ ५ ॥

Just as the self (ātman), under the influence of intoxication, appears as if it were something other than itself, so too, the very element of consciousness (ciddhātu), by virtue of its nature as pure consciousness, exists as if it were non-existent.
